Volunteerism
Volunteers Needed in 4-H
If an "army runs on stomach," then 4-H runs on its volunteers.
At every level 4-H programs are successful to the extent they tap
the creativity, nurturing, wisdom and skills of volunteers.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a 4-H volunteer
please contact your local County
Extension office.
Club Volunteers
Starting with the club or group volunteers make everything happen. Organizational leaders provide overall leadership to club or group organization, overseeing the structure and operation and serving as the club's contact with Extension employees and county-unit volunteers. They involve and coordinate activities of other volunteer roles who support the group. Project and activity leaders help members plan and conduct projects and group activities.
Clubs can use help with tasks that take place repeatedly throughout the year and with tasks that can be completed in a short time period. There are jobs working directly with 4-Her's and others that support the club behind the scenes. The most successful clubs encourage each member's family to take on volunteer roles, each contributing what it can in a unique way.
County Volunteers
At the county level, the program also needs volunteers to give guidance to policy and priority setting and to conduct county-level programs and activities.
State Volunteers
At the state level, volunteers are frequently needed for:
State Fair Jr. Department Advisory Committee
This committee of teens, adult volunteers, and Extension staff plan the non-livestock portion of the Illinois State Fair Junior Department, including the 4-H exhibit requirements and locations, staffing, 4-H promotional windows, and dormitory.
Illinois 4-H Leadership Convention
Planning Committee
This committee of 8-12 teens, an adult volunteer and one Extension
staff member take charge of planning this annual event for Illinois
teens.
