Recognition for Excellence Program
4-H Members
Recognition for Progress
Each 4-H member is unique, with different experiences and personal resources. In order to recognize the individual growth and accomplishments of each member, leaders and parents are encouraged to consult with the members to determine what they would like to do and learn, that is, their 4-H goals. Members should receive guidance in determining realistic project goals and should be recognized for the progress they make toward the achievement of those goals.
Feedback and ample opportunities for systematic review of members' work by concerned adults are an important part of this type of recognition. Special project-planning guides have been designed for the purpose of recording project plans and accomplishments. They are:
- Planning for My Project Adventure, for members ages 8 to 11
- Illinois 4-H Project Plan, for members ages 12 to 14
- Illinois 4-H Project Goals and Evaluation, for members ages 15 to 19
- My 4-H Activities, for all members
These project-planning guides, or goal-setting guides, can be valuable to a 4-H member, not only in the year that they take part in that project area, but also in the future as they look back at what they have accomplished and learned in the 4-H program. The unique achievements and individual growth of each 4-H member will be recognized with the presentation of the Certificate of Progress the first year goals are completed, along with an Award Seal. Additional seals will be awarded to attach to the certificate in subsequent years that goals are reached.
