Camping: Western Camp

Overnight Camps (brochure - pdf)

4-H Adventure Camp
For youth ages 8-12 years.

The name says it all! This camp is a five-day, overnight camp that is full of fun and adventure in the outdoors. Enjoy such things as swimming, nature hikes, boating, archery, arts-n-crafts, recreation, challenge courses, camp fires, cookouts, and meeting new friends. Each camp is unique in its own way! Each day is different and is packed full of exciting activities!

Arrive 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday
Depart 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday

2008 Dates
June 15 - 19
Fee: $190.00 per camper by May 16; $210.00 per camper after May 16

Camp Sneak-a-Peek
For youth ages 8-12 years.

This camp is a sneak-peak at what Western has to offer! This three-day camp is devoted to giving that camper a taste of what camping is all about. If you have never been to camp before, or have never been to Western, here is your chance to see what everyone is talking about!

Come enjoy all the excitement of Adventure Camp in just half the time! This camp still provides many of the quality programs week-long camps have, but for a shorter time. This camp is a three-day, two night stay.

Arrive 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday
Depart 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Tuesday

2008 Dates
June 8 - 10
Fee: $110.00 per camper by May 16; $120.00 per camper after May 16

Teen Challenge Camp
For youth ages 13-16 years.

  • Test your mental and physical abilities with daily outdoor challenges (scavenger hunt, ropes course, orienteering, wilderness meals)*
  • Contribute to your team's success
  • Live in a rustic cabin setting
  • And all the usual camp benefits: swimming, canoeing, recreation, archery, & hikes

Come and meet challenges what you've never met before. Here is a chance to not only meet new friends, but to enjoy the outdoors with an emphasis on teamwork and meeting your personal best. Five days chalked full of fun and excitement!

* Campers are encouraged to participate in all challenges, but we adhere to the "challenge by choice philosophy."

Fee: $190.00 per camper by May 16; $210.00 per camper after May 16

Welcome Letter

Registered campers receive a welcome letter giving details of the camp experience, directions to camp, arrival times, clothing and equipment list, camp rules and other information needed prior to arrival at camp.

Health and Insurance
Each camper is required to submit a complete health history with the registration form. Those received with incomplete health history information cannot be accepted and will be returned for completion. All campers will be covered by a limited accidental injury insurance policy during their stay at camp. Individuals and families are responsible for medical expenses in excess of the policy limits.

Camperships
A limited number of camperships are available to youth who require financial assistance to attend camp. Camperships are based on need. For camperships application, please call 1-217-673-3771. Tax-deductible contributions can be sent to camp to assist those in need.

Registration
You may register your camper(s) at any University of Illinois Extension office in your area. Remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE 4-H PROGRAM TO GO TO CAMP!

As a Camper

Expect to . . .
  • Choose from many activities offered each day.
  • Make lots of new friends.
  • Participate in your choice of learning projects. (model rocketry, conservation, cooking, guitar, electricity, etc.)
  • Enjoy great meals and snacks.
  • Learn about animals, wildlife, and the outdoors.
  • Make a variety of arts and crafts projects.
  • Participate in evening programs including campfires, camp-outs, skits, and a big dance.
  • Have Fun!
