Camping: Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see

Camp Programs

Youth Camp
For youth ages 7-16.

Program includes five days of fun and adventure in the outdoors. More than 140 activities to choose from. Best of all, you'll be doing it with lots of new friends. There's more to do at Camp Shaw than anybody can do in just five days, but you'll sure have fun trying. Check-in: 2-4 p.m. Check-out: 4 p.m.

Extreme Camp
For youth ages 7-16.

Formerly Extended Youth Camp, SEVEN big days of Camp Shaw FUN. With extra days, you can do so many more activities and programs! Events not available at other sessions like movie night and story teller. Check-in: Sunday 2-4 p.m. Check-out: Saturday 11 a.m.

Youth Camp & Extreme Camp Options
Campers must be 12 years old by camp date.

Canoe Trip
Spaces limited. Fee required with registration. $25 (1/2 day) Must pass swim test.

Counselors-In-Training

C.I.T. I
For teens who have completed grade 9 and up. Focus on leadership development and team building within the peer group. Also participate in youth camp programs.

C.I.T. II
For teens who have completed grades 10-12. Focus on skills necessary to be a camp counselor. Live in cabins with campers and assist counselors in cabin management.

Family Camp Weekend

Families, friends, grandparents, reunions. Fun vacation weekend for the whole family. Enjoy quality time together in a natural setting. Activities in all program areas as well as evening programs and campfire. Each family group is assigned a cabin that accommodates up to 10 people. Invite others to fill your cabin and decrease your cost. Deposit of $100 holds your reservation. Pay balance at check in. Check-in: Friday 4-5 p.m. Check-out: Sunday 11 a.m.

Fee: $350 per cabin up to 5 people/$50 per person each additional person (no charge for those under 4 years old)


Welcome Letter
A Welcome Letter is sent to confirm your registration and give details about the camp session, directions to camp, arrival and departure times, clothing and equipment list, camp rules and other information you need to know prior to arrival. Please make sure to read all the information in this letter.

Cabin Placement
Cabin placement is determined by the camper's age. A cabin mate may be requested by designating the other camper in the space provided on your registration form. The request can be honored if two campers within a year of age request each other. Requests for multiple cabin mates cannot be honored. Cabin mate requests on registrations received less than seven days before the session begins cannot be guaranteed. Cabin list will not be changed on check-in day.

Health and Insurance
A complete health history must be submitted for each camper. This is part of the registration form. Incomplete health forms will be returned for completion. All campers are covered by a limited 2,500 accidental injury insurance policy during their stay in camp. Individuals and families are responsible for medical expenses in excess of policy limits.

Financial Aid
Limited financial help is available to assist families in sending their children to camp. Based on need, assistance is less than half the fee. Applications for financial assistance are available by calling Monday-Friday at 815-933-3011. Application deadline is May 1.

Tax-deductible contributions to the on-going campership fund can be sent at any time to camp to assist others. Just mark your contribution "Campership Fund"

Registration Deadline
You may register your camper(s) at any of the 4-H Extension offices in your area. Remember YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN THE 4-H PROGRAM TO GO TO CAMP! Registrations will be accepted, as space is available, through the Monday before a session starts.

Discounts
Early bird discounts apply if registration and fee are postmarked NO later than April 30.

Sibling discounts of $10/additional child apply after the first child is registered at full fee (less early bird discount, if applicable). Note: This is not applicable for the Family Camp.

Refunds & Cancellations
Refunds must be requested in writing. For cancellations made 10 days or more before the session begins, 25% of the fee is non-refundable. Cancellations made less than 10 days before a session begins will receive no refund. The Family Camp deposit is non-refundable. No refunds will be issued after August 10.

  • Participate in your choice of learning projects. (model rocketry, conservation, cooking, guitar, electricity, etc.)

  • Learn about animals, wildlife, and the outdoors.
  • Make a variety of arts and crafts projects.
  • Participate in evening programs including campfires, camp-outs, skits, and a big dance.
