Welcome to this site for volunteer administrators, especially
targeted to recognize volunteers in programs for youth. It provides
guides, ideas, and materials to recognize volunteers and to promote
volunteerism during National Volunteer Week and throughout the year.
Administrators of any volunteer program should find items they can
use.
A volunteer gives time and expertise without expecting monetary
compensation. The half of the U.S. population who volunteers
makes many educational, health, cultural, and human service programs
work.
A recent survey conducted by the Gallup Organization for Independent
Sector found 44% of Americans volunteering with a formal organization in 2000.
Based on in-home interviews of a representative sample of
adults over 21, an estimated 83.9 million people volunteered
an equilivalent of 9 millon full-time employees at a value of $239 million.
It is especially important for these programs and those whom they benefit
to make special efforts to recognize their volunteers as part of
a complete volunteer management system.
The specialists in 4-H youth development education and volunteerism
at Land Grant Universities of the North Central States have prepared
volunteer recognition materials at this website to assist program
administrators, especially those working with 4-H. Included materials
will also help to promote volunteering. The materials are presented
with like items in separate files, so that they may be downloaded
easily in Microsoft Word and adapted for your own use. Users who
do not have access to Microsoft Word may view and print the following
PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat. (However, no modification to
the Acrobat files is possible.) Click here
for information on how to view the PDF files.
