MEDIA ADVISORY FOR NATIONAL 4-H WEEK – OCTOBER 7-13
THEME: 4-H SET: Science, Engineering and Technology
Illinois 4-H youth will be learning and teaching others about science, engineering and technology during National 4-H Week, October 7-13, 2007.
“Technology is part of our future and 4-H members will have additional opportunities to learn about technology in fun and interactive ways,” said Richard Clark, Interim Assistant Dean and Director, University of Illinois Extension 4-H Youth Development. “This year 4-H’ers can participate in new projects, such as Robotics and Geospatial: Exploring Spaces, Going Places. Several county Extension offices are also offering workshops on these topics, in addition to computer gaming and building or refurbishing computers.”

National 4-H Week is the first full calendar week of October. During the week 4-H members publicize 4-H and encourage other youth to join. Also, members are often recognized for last year’s accomplishments.
4-H is the largest out-of-school educational program for youth in the United States. 4‑H seeks to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, forming attitudes, and developing life skills that will enable them to become caring, competent, and contributing members of society. In Illinois 281,462 youth participate in 4-H and the other youth programs of University of Illinois Extension. More than 25,300 youth and adult volunteers assist in the programming.
