Rock Island County 4-H Volunteer is Recognized by 4-H Illinois 4-H honored Opal Minteer, of Andalusia in Rock Island County, on 4-H Day, Nov. 10, at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana campus for her 51 years of service in the 4-H organization. Minteer started volunteering as a 4-H leader when her children, and later her grandchildren, were members of 4-H clubs. For the past 38 years, she has volunteered with Handi-Buds, a 4-H program for youth with mental or physical disabilities. As a volunteer, Minteer helps in the kitchen preparing trays for members, baking the food they have prepared, and serving the baked goods to the 4-H members. She has also encouraged her grandson to volunteer with this unique 4-H club. Every year on 4-H Day, Illinois 4-H honors volunteers who have served the organization for more than 50 years. Nearly 17,000 volunteer 4-H leaders work with youth, schools and communities in Illinois. Return to 4-H Day IndexAbout 4-H | Projects | Special Opportunities | News & Events | Staff | Links |
