2002 Illinois 4-H Partnership Awards
Illinois IFYE Association Recognized as 4-H Partner
Illinois 4-H presented the Illinois International 4-H Youth Exchange
(IFYE) Association with the 2002 4-H Partnership Award during 4-H Day,
Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the Krannert Center for the Performing
Arts on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
The Illinois IFYE Association began in 1948 to keep alive the spirit
of youth involvement in world peace. Since that time, thousands of 4-H
youth have been provided copious opportunities to explore other countries,
discover different cultures, and learn more about themselves and their
environments. Each year, selected 4-H youth participate in a number of
international travel experiences and opportunities to welcome visitors
from other countries and cultures into their homes.
The Association offers alumni services and travel scholarships to 4-H
youth. Each year, the group sponsors a family picnic to introduce international
youth travelers to their Illinois living experience and help their hosts
prepare for an exciting cultural experience.
4-H Partners
with Illinois Electric Council
The Illinois Electric Council (IEC) received the 2002 Illinois 4-H Partnership
award for their long-term support of the Illinois 4-H program. IEC was
recognized on 4-H Day, Saturday, November 16 at the Krannert Center for
the Performing Arts, on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
The IEC was established in 1952 to help the electric industry to provide
research and educational materials to consumers. The organization has
taught thousands of 4-H youth and consumers about electric safety and
proper use of equipment and materials. The Council provides electric programs
at 4-H camps and conferences where industry representatives work closely
with groups of youth in learning experiences. One of the favorite electrical
programs at camp has been the making of electrical extension cords. For
each of these programs, IEC provided the supplies and learning materials.
Through the years, IEC coordinated and sponsored educational tours and
trips for thousands of 4-H youth. The group has funded expense-paid state
award trips to National 4-H Congress. Council representatives recruit
and train 4-H electric project judges for county and state fairs, publicize
4-H youth project accomplishments through industry publications, and coordinate
displays and exhibits that showcase their commitment to youth as valued
partners in citizen education.
