Illinois 4-H Leader Honored for 50 Years of Service
50-Year 4-H Leader from Clark County Clark County 4-H Leader Naomi Baker was recently recognized for 50 years of volunteer service to 4-H youth. Baker was honored at a state 4-H recognition event at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on Saturday, November 16. Baker's 4-H career began in 1937 when she joined The Get Together Girls 4-H Club. At that time, girls had only three curriculum areas from which to choose 4-H projects - food, clothing, and room improvement. As a super 4-H achiever, she completed projects in all three. During her final years as a member, she joined the Merry Sunbeams 4-H Club, which later became The New Horizons when boys joined the group. It was during this time that Baker launched her long and distinguished career as a 4-H volunteer leader. Baker's affiliation with The New Horizons lasted for more than thirty years. Soon after, she led the Moriah Go Getters. She currently serves as a county 4-H Leader-at-Large and assists the program and 4-H youth wherever there is a need. For the past twenty-three years, Baker has served as treasurer of the Clark County 4-H Leaders' Organization and coordinated the county 4-H foods show and auction. She has been the bookkeeper for the county's annual 4-H fundraiser and served as business manager of the Leisure Craft and Counseling Camp for more than twenty years.
